Disclaimer: I can only wish I own them, but they are and will never be mine.
Author’s Note: I’ve been sitting on this for a while now, but I couldn’t finish it. It just didn’t sound right to me, so it might be off. This is the prequel to Chalk and Eraser; so if you haven't read those, give them a try. Thanx to Kate for the title suggestion. *KISS*

The hair on the back of her neck stood up as she walked into the main room of the house. She had always been a little on the paranoid side, but this time it was different. It wasn’t the creepy scary kind that you get when you are walking home alone, being on your guard at the slight movement of the shadows. It was more like electricity, positive meeting negative, making a connection. She looked around the room to find the source of that energy, but only found endless unfamiliar faces talking… eating… and getting to know each other. Then she spotted him. He was on the other side of the room, leaning against the wall; she couldn’t get a good look at him because of the various people walking around the room obstructed her view, but she noticed that he was turning his head, to look her way. She was ready to face him, but suddenly a hand grabbed her shoulder.

The air cracked like lightening as it slowly dispersed, catching all the positive molecules in the air. He felt this before, a long time ago and very recently. The air shifted as soon as she walked into the room. The words “who is she” repeated over and over in his head. He knew her, but he didn’t know how. Most of the people in the room didn’t even notice the sudden increase of energy in the room or was he being paranoid, afraid that someone might recognize him. He knew she could tell that he was looking at her, because her back straightened in attention. He lowered his head as she slowly turned around to look for him. He was trying to look relaxed and bored as he stole glances at her from the corner of his eyes. Her sudden movement caught his full attention.

Breaking away from a hug she asked, “Tess, is that you?”

Tess giggled, “Of course it is, silly, who else would it be!-” she said as she took a step back and did a spin to show off what she was wearing.

“Nice costume! Very sexy, very Mulan Rouge-ques,” she praised while giving her friend a wink. “-But how did you know it was me?”

“With those LEGS in THAT costume-” Tess stated as she nodded approvingly, “-Who couldn’t tell!”

He kept on look at the two girls. They were an intriguing pair. One was dressed in an old French style dress, much like what those girls wore in Mulan Rouge, which showed off some nice breasts. The other one was in a waitress outfit that was intentionally too short to show off her legs. He was studying her, the way she crossed her arms, the way she would straighten out a misplaced piece of hair, that was never there, but mostly, he was studying the way her lips moved. How her smile energized the room and how her mouth pouted when she made an “O”. He wished she would show her face, but the Marti Gras feather mask made it difficult to see her entire face. There was something vaguely familiar about her. He had felt ‘IT’ before, but didn't know what ‘IT’ was, but he recognized it. His thoughts were interrupted by a can of beer that was shoved into his hand.

“Thanks man,” he said without looking up. He picked up his beer to eye level, studying it.

“Roll up your mask man,” Kyle advised as he tipped his mask up to take a swig of his beer. “-So who are we looking at?” Kyle asked as he scanned the room of partygoers. Everybody was in various costumes, holding their drinks, trying to figure out who one another are. “You can have legs. I want Mulan there,” Kyle said with a smirk.

“Dog!-” he said with a chuckle. “I know her from somewhere, I think my ‘Spider-sense’ is kicking in.”

“You definitely need to get a new costume, man. Four years as Spiderman! Better be glad that that suit is spandex,” chuckled Kyle.

“Kyle… sometimes a man must play out his fantasy!”

“No, no… no names tonight. You’re Spiderman, not Professor Michael Guerin, the math geek, and I’m the Green Goblin, not the ‘Oh-so-sexy-please-hand-cuff-me-to-the-bed-post-babe-magnet’,” Kyle said jokingly.

“Hey ‘Rent-a-Cop’… ‘Mulan’ is eyeing you-” Michael joked.

“Night job man, night job” Kyle said with a chuckle, “-Ok, watch a master at work!” was the last thing that Michael heard as his friend went to make his move on the petite blonde in a Mulan Rouge outfit.

Michael found himself a nice quiet corner where he had a better view of ‘Legs’ and finished up his beer. He had to admit, Kyle had some balls. He walked straight to ‘Mulan’ and ‘Legs’ and started talking and joking with them like he had always known them. It’s not that Michael was socially inept; there was just something about ‘Legs’ that put him on edge. Maybe if she would take off her mask, he could get a better look at her.

Michael wondered how Kyle got him to come to the party, and for that matter, a party full of students, some that could be his own. Granted that he usually go out to party, mostly bars, during the celebration, but a Frat party was too close for comfort. Oh yeah!, he lost a bet and had to come to Kyle’s old Fraternity’s Halloween masquerade party. He was actually kind of glad that he was wearing the whole Spiderman costume; no one would recognize him, although it was inconvenient to roll the mask up just to drink his beer.

“So, Green Goblin, do villains and heroes always hang out together?” asked ‘Legs’ as she pointed behind her to the sitting Spiderman.

“Him? Nah… he's just here to make sure I don’t get into trouble,” Kyle said as he winked at ‘Mulan’. “So, Ladies, can I have your real names or should I keep on calling you ‘Legs’ and ‘Mulan Rouge’?”

“Look, seeeeeee…” ‘Legs’ said as she pointed to her nametag, “Mary Jane-”

“As in Spiderman’s love interest,” ‘Mulan’ quickly cut in as she jerked her head towards Kyle’s friend giving him a wink in the process. “-I like ‘Mulan Rouge’ but you can call me Tess.”

“Well, Tess and MJ, I’m Kyle,” he stated “-how about something to drink, charming you ladies is making me thirsty.”

Michael noticed that all three of them were heading his way and for some reason he was feeling more nervous than usual. It was not the first time he’s met an attractive woman, although he had yet to see her whole face, but if her legs were any indication of her face then, damn, she was hot. And not to mention those lips, the way they smiled and pouted! His concentration was out the window when he saw her trip, but before she hit the floor he caught her in both of his arms. Michael helped ‘Mary Jane’ get up, but did not remove his arms around her waste nor did she seem to move away from him. Her arms were still around him when Kyle coughed to interrupt their moment together.

“Spiderman I’d like you to meet Tess and her friend...”

“Mary Jane-” interrupted Michael.

The confused tilt of her head made Michael point to her name tag on her waitress uniform.

“Thank you Spiderman for rescuing me from what could have been a very embarrassing situation.”

“Yeah yeah… that’s what superheroes do… blah blah blah. Don’t give him a big head, he has these ideas and fantasies,” Kyle rambled while the others looked at him as if he was just possessed. Looking straight at Maria, Kyle playfully pleaded, “Please… please don’t help him, you really don’t want to see the head grow-”

Kyle only stopped when he felt a hard smack across his head. He turned his head to see Michael standing there with his head tilt to the side. Kyle had known Michael for a very long time and he was certain Michael was pissed off under the mask, so he quickly made his escape. “Well, if you two don’t mind, Tess and I will go and cause some trouble,” Kyle said as he reached over and took Tess’ hand and started to walk away from his friend. Kyle called back, “Remember, you’re his love interest!” At the very moment both Michael and MJ looked away, not knowing why that little joke made them do so.

Dumbstruck at Kyle's adolescent behavior, they both started laughing than relaxing at the same time.

“I’m Michael by the way and that jerk that just left is Kyle,” Michael said as he got her a soda.

“It’s Maria, and thanks,” she said politely as she took the drink. And it hit her; she knew she recognized him from somewhere. He has this vibe about him.

Both of them were having a wonderful time just chatting and joking around and getting to know each other. He was actually enjoying himself, at times forgetting who he was and where he was.

“Shit!” was all Maria heard before she was pulled from the main room of the house. The next thing she knew, Maria was in a dark cramp space, which had to be the hall closet.

She was about to give him a piece of her mind, thinking that she wasn't that kind of girl as she noticed that he wasn’t even facing her. He was looking through the crack of the door. Without even thinking, she leaned against his back to look over his shoulder. She placed a hand on his shoulder to balance herself. She had to tippy-toe since he was a lot taller than she was.

“So what are we looking at?” Maria whispered into his ear.

Michael glanced back and reached an arm behind him to help Maria gain her balance as she almost slipped. Oh boy, his mind was racing. What possessed him to take her into the closet was beyond him now. With her leaned up against him and whispering like that, it made him momentarily forget why he was hiding in the first place. It took him some time to realize that Maria was repeating the same question.

“Sorry… for, for being so forceful,” he said in a soulful whisper. “I just saw her and she freaked me out...”

“Girlfriend?”

“Hell NO! Stalker!”

Maria raised her eyebrow in interest. She reached behind her to take Michael’s hand off her back. Not that she minded, he had big hands and she always had a thing for big hands but the things they were doing to her made her forget why they were in there in the first place. She squeezed between him and the door to get in front of him, getting a better look at who his stalker was. “You mean the bottle blond in the ‘Brittney Spears’ wannabe costume?” Maria asked as she looked through the crack of the door.

“A-huh,” Michael answered as he took a step back to give her more space, while bending down to her eye level.

Maria looked to her right when she felt his breath fluttered across her cheek. She wished that he wasn’t so close because she was scared that he might be able to hear how hard her heart was beating. Even in the dimly lit space, she saw beautiful soulful brown eyes and got lost in them.

She got spooked when the door was suddenly closed. Maria came to realize that again, strong arms were holding her when she gained her composure. She knew that Michael was in front of her, but with the door being closed, the space was hardly visible. All she could see was darker or lighter shades of black in front of her. Maria was about to speak when soft lips delightfully surprised her.

The tender kisses quickened to something fierce as their arms held each other tight. Michael backed her up and started to deepen his kisses as Maria moaned in his mouth. Maria reached up and pulled the rest of his mask off since hers somehow was missing. Maria let out a louder moan when Michael started to nibble on her ear and down her neck, again forgetting where they were.

“Hey Kyle, seen my babe?”

“Hey Courtney. No I haven’t and he’s not your ‘babe’,” Kyle answered annoyingly.

“Whatever. I know he’s here,” Courtney said as she rolled her eyes and gave Tess a once over.

“Well good luck at finding him,” Kyle said. He quickly took Tess’ hand and lead her away from the blond bimbo. Leaning in close he whispered, “-we need to find Michael now! The freak-on-a-leash is here and he should be warned.”

Tess nodded in understanding. She looked back behind her at the girl standing with her hand on her hips; t;the chic had to be a freak if she was anything like her costume.

***

Kyle was the first to notice it. It was low, almost like a cat purr, but the noises got louder as Kyle and Tess got closer. Kyle jerked his head in the direction of the door when Tess’ eyes widened as she heard the moans too.

They both pushed their ears against the door, eavesdropping on the couple behind the door. Like little children they snickered at the sounds behind the door, as it got louder. Kyle motioned for Tess to move to the other side of the door. He reached for the doorknob then looked up at his partner in crime to see her nodding, encouraging him to continue. Kyle smirked at Tess as he turned the doorknob and quickly jerk the door open.

Arms and legs were all over the place. Kyle tried to push Michael and Maria off of him, but he was stuck on the bottom of the three peopl pile.

Michael rolled off of Maria, who was sandwiched between the two men, as Tess helped her friend up.

After she finished laughing, Maria turned around and said, “Thanks professor for the extra-curricular activity.”

Michael's jaw hung open. He was speechless and his embarrassment was evident as his face turned a shade lighter than the red of his costume. He knew he recognized her from somewhere. She was in his introductory course, the course that he taught in a auditorium to 200 students. Michael stammered to speak, but nothing came out.

Giving him a wide grin, Maria answered without being asked, “Your voice was a dead giveaway to who you are. Yeah, I knew it was you.” Maria wink at him knowingly. Taking one final look at him, she giggled and started to walk away with Tess close on her heals. Stopping in the middle of the hallway she turned around and spoke, “Professor, we should explore these activites at a later time, perhaps after I graduate? And Kyle, I didn’t mind a little head growth.” She quickly walked away to join the rest of the party.

Looking at Michael, Kyle shook his head and commented, “Dude, I told you, you shouldn’t wear spandex.”
